LEARN TO PAINT ICONS
The Icon in the Bulgarian tradition is not simply an image of a saint.
The Icon is a substantial part of our tradition, a concentration of culture, historical heritage and art.

We offer you the exclusive opportunity to participate an Icon Painting Workshop in some of the most picturesque and spiritual places in Bulgaria: the town of Melnik, or the village of Dolen, or the town of Sozopol.

The instructor is an accomplished icon painter. The number of participants - 4 to 6 people. Each participant will have an icon completed by the end of the workshop. All painting materials will be available for the participants.

Place: At the Lumparov’s House in the town of Melnik

The small museum-town is a charming Bulgarian historical and architectural reserve with many churches, the Rozhen monastery near by all of which you may visit after art assignments Melnik is a wonderful place to combine and exercise art and spirituality.

Place: At the RhoDea House in the village of Dolen

Amidst the authentic atmosphere of the centuries old house with lots of icons and ethno antiquities, you will have the opportunity to learn icon painting according the canon of the best Bulgarian schools. The icons and the frescoes in the local church (also a cultural monument as well as the RhoDea house) will be a real inspiration in your artwork. The nearby Thracian sanctuaries, churches and monasteries in the vicinity will be visited as well.

Place: At the House with the Sun in the town of Sozopol

Situated on a rocky peninsula in the Black sea Sozopol is famous for its special charm during all seasons. The place where you will have your icon painting workshop is an authentic family house dating back the 19 th century with exquisite interior and artistic atmosphere.

Along with the painting lessons you will have the opportunity to visit the Greek and Roman archeological sites, Nessebar - unique small town which is part of the world, s heritage under the auspices of UNESCO and famous for its old churches and architecture.
