HORSEBACK PASSAGES BLACK SEA - STRANDJA MOUNTAIN

GENERAL  INFORMATION

Ability: novice or intermediate riders. 

Number of riders: from 4 to 8 

Type of horses: Arabic-Shagia type, English Thoroughbred, Trekiner, Eastern Bulgarian. 

Height of horses: 1.50 m to 1.65 m 

Maximum weight limit: up to 100 kg. 

Saddles: English and Western 

Average hours in saddle: 4-5 

Accommodation: In two-star and three-star hotels; in family hotels, in cottages and in the open air.

Meals: ecologically clean food; international and traditional Bulgarian cuisine; drinks included. Breakfast and dinner in the hotels, picnic lunch - on the trail.

The program includes
8 days, 7 nights,6 full days of riding

Additional activities:
 
fishing, rare birds and wild animals watching, sightseeing, photography

Additional information: 
Two guides - riders (one of them with medical qualification) - lead the group and are followed by a bus with a radio connection.

 

Time period: May to October.

 

ITINERARY

First day: Arriving in the village of Lozenets. Accommodation at a family hotel. Meeting the guides and the horses.

Second day: A ride from the village of Lozenets to the village of Varvara. A ride along the Black Sea coast. The riders will enjoy galloping along the endless beaches of the Black Sea. Afternoon rest and picnic lunch. The ride continues through the virgin forests of Strandja Mountain and the picturesque site of the Black Sea coast to the village of Varvara. At the end of the day riders and horses will enjoy the warm water of the Black Sea. 

Accommodation: in the village of Varvara in two-star family hotel. Riding - about 4 hours.

Third day: A ride from Varvara to the village of Sinemorets. Riding through different types of terrain - seaside and mountainous. The terrain is suitable for trot and gallop. Lunch - in the neighbourhood of village of Ahtopol. The day will end with riding across the beautiful mouth of Veleka River. Accommodation - in the village of Sinemorets.

Riding - about 4 hours.

Fourth day: A ride from the village of Sinemorets across the crystal waters of the Veleka River to the picturesque place, named Tsarskoto kladenche (King’s Well). Afternoon rest and a short lunch-break - on the verandah of a summerhouse, beautifully situated among the centuries-old woods. The ride continues along the gorge of the Veleka River to the village of Brodilovo. Accommodation - in Brodilovo.

Riding - about 4 hours.

Fifth day: Ride from Brodilovo past the chapel of The Holly Mother. After a short break - a ride along the gorge of the Veleka River. Break and lunch in a wooden shelter. A 2-hour ride in the afternoon via the small village of Kosti. The riders can visit the St. Kiril and St. Metodi Church in the village of Kosti. Accommodation - in the village of Kosti.

Riding - about 4,5 hours.

Sixth day: Ride from the village of Kosti through the Silkosia preserve. If we are lucky, we could observe and take pictures of some rare birds and wild animals. The ride continues via the small village of Bulgari to the Saint Trinity Chapel. At Bulgari village the riders will get in touch with the millenary Bulgarian tradition - nestinarstvo - an ancient, magnetic and mystical ritual dance onto fire. Break and lunch- at the village of Bulgari. The ride continues through the picturesque place to the Saint Trinity Chapel. The riders will stay overnight in the open air, near the chapel. Pitching the camp and dinner round the campfire.

Riding - about 4 hours.

Seventh day: Packing the tents. A ride from the Saint Trinity Chapel along the countryside of Trionski river valley. Picnic at the picturesque place Skokat . About 3 hours ride to the villageof Lozenets. Accommodation at a family hotel.

Riding - about 5 hours.

Eight day: Saying good-bye to the guides and the horses and departure from the village of Lozenets.

A RIDE FROM 
THE VILLAGE OF TRIGRAD 
TO THE TOWN OF MELNIK

old houses 

Meals: the hotels and houses provide the breakfasts and dinners and they offer traditional local dishes. The midday meals are in the open-air during the passages and they consist of warm food, wine and warm up drinks, all included in the price. 

The program includes: 
8 days, 7 nights, and 6 full days of riding 

Additional activities: fishing, hiking, mountaineering, rare birds and wildlife watching, photography.

ITINERARY

First day: Arriving in the village of Trigrad. Accommodation at a family hotel. The riders will meet the guides and the horses. 

Second day: A ride from the village of Trigrad through a beautiful pine forest to the Videnitsa peak (1652 m).On the very top of the peak the riders will see a Thracian sanctuary and the ruins of an ancient Roman stronghold. A ride through the village of Zmeitsa to the town of Dospat. 

Riding - about 5 hours. 

Third day: A ride from the town of Dospat past the crystal waters of the Dospat dam, along the ridge called Star Mountain to the Hissar gulch. Break and lunch in a wooden shelter, beautifully situated among the pine-trees. A ride via the small village of Pletena to the village of Dolen, which is an architectural preserve. Accommodation in Dolen at about 260 years old house which has preserved the simplicity and coziness of the authentic architecture and past time’s atmosphere. 

Riding - about 5 hours. 

Fourth day: A ride from Dolen through the valley of Mesta river to the village of Hadji Dimovo. Picknik lunch and a short break. Accommodation in the village of Hadji Dimovo. In the afternoon - free time for rest and sightseeing. Dinner with local meals and wine by the fireplace. 

Riding - about 5 hours. 

Fifth day: A ride from village of Hadji Dimovo along the north-western slopes of Slavyanka Mountain to the village of Paril. Accommodation in Paril. 

Riding - about 5 hours. 

Sixth day: A ride from the village of Paril along the beautiful Paril’s pass formed from Pirin and Slavyanka mountains ridge through the village of Petrovo to the village of Kalimantsi. 

Accommodation in the village of Kalimantsi. Dinner in a warm and friendly atmosphere. 

Riding - about 5 hours. 

Seventh day: A ride from the village of Kalimantsi to the famous Rozhen monastery and to the town of Melnik. Lunch and a short break in the vicinity of Rojen monastery. Acommodation in Melnik - in a typical old house – Lumparov’s house. Wine tasting and dinner in the wine-cellar. 

Riding - about 5 hours. 

Eight day: After breakfast - saying good-bye to the guides and the horses. Departure from the town of Melnik.
