Republic of Bulgaria is situated in the middle of the Balkan Peninsula on a busy crossroad of different cultures. According to statistics our country is on third place (after Greece and Italy) for the number of its archeological monuments. Today’s land of the Bulgarians is one of the most ancient springs of civilization in Europe. The first traces of human activities in these territories date back to the Paleolithic Age (Old Stone Age). 

Bulgaria is a small country with truly unique natural environment: a remarkable topographic variety within a relatively small compass, a scenic landscape with an abundance of rivers, lakes and mineral springs; rich plant and animal life. Combined with the remarkable cultural, historical, ethnographic and architectural diversity, this unarguably makes Bulgaria attractive tourist destination. 

Bulgaria is known mainly as a country with wonderful seaside and winter resorts and it is definitely true. But it also keeps many other magic secrets and ARKANtours wants to show one of them - the Rhodope Mountains. 

Rhodope - name of woman. She is the Mother Protectress. She is the Great Goddess Mother - worship - ped through the Ages and raised into religious and sacred cults. We have inherited this land buried in mysticism and heavenly beauty from the peoples who gave birth to Orpheus and Spartacus and created distinctive religion and culture and described by the "Father of History"- Herodotus.

This land - full of ecstatic joys and heavy sufferings through the ages always echoed with the endless sound of the Rhodopean pipe and the song which was sent with the Voyager space ship as a message to other world. 

Ancient Roman military roads cut through the mountain; Roman bridges, Thracian sanctuaries and megalith monuments are the silent witnesses of heroic days past. 

What more can you see there? - Blue ridges, deep canyons and caves, torrential rivers, and endless green meadows. - Endemic birds and plants. - Bucolic villages, authentic old houses, unique ethnographic and cultural diversity and very hospitable and serene people. 

There is no comparison to the delight of discovering the energy and the beauty of the mountain riding a horse. The horse is the sacred animal for Thracians and the old Bulgarians and it is still the most natural sight amidst the Rhodopean forests and meadows.
